Over the years, photonics is becoming a key enabling technology in space engineering, particularly in the field of earth observation. It is expected that in the next decade, photonics will gain an important role in other sub-system such as data processing/handling and the communications ones.
EPIC, European Photonics Industry Consortium, is organizing an event about “photonics at final frontier” at ESA, the European Space Agency, with the purpose to critically review the main and most promising emerging technologies addressing new space applications.
Optics, optoelectronics and photonics are currently widely used especially for Earth observation, at this event industry experts meet to discuss new uses of these technologies in aerospace and the future of space.
To bring the discussion to another level, 5 sessions are planned to afford various themes, from space-based Lidar technologies, to optical links for inter- and intra- spacecraft communications, including new development for earth observation, the role of Human in space exploration, and a session regarding emerging trends for NewSpace is closing the event.
Agenda:
13th September
- 13:15 – 14:30 SESSION 1 – HUMAN SPACE EXPLORATION
- 15:15 – 16:30 SESSION 2 – PHOTONICS ADVANCES FOR AND MONITORING
- 17:15 – 18:45 SESSION 3 – SPACE BASED LIDAR SYSTEMS
14th September
- 09:00 – 10:45 SESSION 4 – OPTICAL LINKS FOR INTER AND INTRA SPACECRAFT COMMUNICATIONS
- 11:30 – 13:00 SESSION 5 – EMERGING TRENDS IN PHOTONICS FOR NEWSPACE
- 14:15 – 15:30 Tour at ESA
Venue:
The event venue is the European Space Agency at the Erasmus building, Keplerlaan 1, 2201 AZ, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
The Europe’s gateway to space, due to its mission, is in fact the appropriate location to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
